A microscopic ocean organism becomes a room-sized shelter, taking a cue from the delicate mineral armor of Gephyrocapsa huxleyi — a tiny marine form whose surface is built from repeated plates, rings, ribs, and openings.
At architectural scale, that logic becomes something strangely familiar: part shell, part skeleton, part woven canopy.
The structure rises and dips like something pulled into balance by invisible forces. Its surface is porous and patterned, filtering light through a field of cellular openings. From a distance it reads as a single flowing body. Up close, it breaks into many small decisions — each module holding its place in the larger form.
It is a pavilion about scale, transformation, and hidden intelligence: a fragment of the ocean made inhabitable, turning microscopic order into architectural atmosphere.

Variable

A tool developed to solve the issue of last minute requests to generate 3D visulaizations of factory layouts. Giving every popssible design decision a variable means that the result is manipulating a 3D model that feels more like sculpting than CAD.

The a cable-supported suspended canopy has the characteristic of being able to suspend the "horizontal" members at any arbitrary angle, so this script takes that variable and maps it to a mathhematical function. The result is somewhere between being wave-like and having a gestural quality that is mesmerizing to cycle through.

A perforated metal facade based on several studies: a solar analysis, solid/void analysis, and public adjacency analysis drove the script that generates the perforated holes in the architectural metal panels.

The project consisted of a park on the top floor, accesible via a stairway on the south facade, revealing an opportunity to incorporate a mural expressed by varying the size of the perforation in the metal panels.

Areas where visibility is a driving factor favor large openings, where areas that benefit from more protection from the sun and having a rainscreen have limited perforation.

508 E. Pershing is a mixed-use residential building developed as part of a larger affordable housing initiative. The project began with a reworking of the site strategy and building organization, establishing a clear framework for unit planning, circulation, and street presence within a tight urban footprint.

The façade was conceived as a layered system, combining robust, buildable materials with areas of increased articulation. An early proposal developed this further through a parametrically defined wood slat assembly, generating a continuous, undulating surface across selected elevations. The system was built from standard lumber elements, with variation achieved through controlled shifts in depth and spacing rather than custom fabrication.
